Unintentional child poisoning remains a global societal issue and a considerable risk in the home. In the United States (U.S.), every day, two children die because of poisoning. In the European Union (EU), poisoning is the fifth leading cause of unintentional death for children. One of the most commonly cited causes of poisoning is accidental ingestion of medicinal drugs. Despite a downward trend in poisoning cases thanks to better regulations and awareness, the risk of poisoning still exists, and patients and stakeholders are calling on pharmaceutical companies to recognize the importance of child- resistant closures (CRCs) in medical packaging.
